Hot Tub Heater Hell? No Sweat! Easy Spa Pack Heater Tube Swap

Has your hot tub heater given up the ghost? Don’t worry—this guide will teach you how to replace a heater on a Spa pack. While we’ll focus on the Balboa model, these steps can be applied to many other spa packs as well.

Before moving to the guide, please note that I’ll use the video below to explain, so make sure you watch it. This will allow you to visualise the instructions below.

Step 1: The first step is to unplug the two temperature probes. To do that, there’s a tiny button on the right side of the panel. You need to reach in and click to detach the probes. 

Step 2: Next, we will unplug the power unit. This is a simple Molex connection that can easily be removed. 

Step 3: Your heater tube is held in place by two bolts, one on the bottom and one on the top right centre. To remove them, use a small wrench to loosen them and take them out. 

Step 4: Now that both bolts are off, heat the rod from the spa pack. 

Reassembly

Now that you have a replacement unit on hand (you can get them from here), reassembly is just the steps above in reverse.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to reconnecting a new heating rod to your Spa pack. 

Step 1: Place the heating rod in its place and align it to the necessary bolt cuttings. 

Step 2: Attach the rod with the bolts in both places. 

Step 3: Reattach the Molex power connection to the heat tube. 

Step 4: Reconnect the temperature probes to the heater pack. 

That’s it, you’re done! Be sure to try it, and it should work like new.
