DIY Dipping Pool – Case Study, Roger, Dominican Republic

DIY Dipping Pool

DIY Dipping Pool – yes please!
What I love about what I do is the variety of people, countries and projects that I get to deal with.
Some projects I have a huge amount of involvement in. Some, like this one, I have some correspondence, supply some parts and then out of the blue, I get a wonderful email from Roger with a whole bunch of pictures of his build which is now complete.
This variety makes everyday different which I love!
In this post, I am going to explain all the stages that Roger went through when he was building his DIY dipping pool in his back yard in the Dominican Republic.

ICF Hot Tub? Have you ever dreamed of having your own hot tub in your garden? If so, you’re not alone. Hot tubs are a great way to relax and unwind, and they can also add value to your home. But what if you don’t have the budget for a pool or spa builder to come and build it for you? That’s where DIY comes in!

In this blog post, we’ll be following along with Adam, a DIY enthusiast who is building his own ICF hot tub using ICF blocks. ICF blocks are insulated concrete forms, which are becoming increasingly popular for DIY projects. They’re lightweight and easy to work with, making them a great option for beginners.

DIY Infinity Hot Tub – From Concept to Reality

DIY Infinity Hot Tub

DIY Infinity Hot Tub – this was what Brian wanted when he got in touch with me back in April of 2022. Unlike most clients that make contact as they dont want to pay the exorbitant prices that the spa and pool builders choose, Brian has somewhat of another problem.

Where he wanted to build his infinity hot tub at his new home that was under construction in the Bahamas – there simply were no pool or spa builders. Therefore, Brian wanted to use his existing contractors to do the work.

The other problem, was that they have never built one before. This is exactly what I do, so was more than happy to start initial dialogue with Brian for how I could help him and the team.

Adding a Hot Tub to a Pool – Case Study – Scott, AZ, USA

Add Hot Tub To Pool

Scott from Arizona, USA first got in touch with me back in May of 2022. He was looking to add a hot tub to his pool. Having put the feelers out to see how much it would cost to get a builder to do it – Scott decided that it was something that he felt with my advice and guidance, he could do himself. It was going to be a fun project for him and his son but most importantly, he would save a whole bunch of money in the process.

Fast forward to January 2023 and Scott was almost ready to start. He hired me to design a custom layout for his hot tub so that it could make use of the pool kit from his existing swimming pool in terms of heating and filtration but also, it would have separately controlled jets.

Infinity Hot Tub – DIY-built?

DIY Infinity Hot Tub

DIY Infinity Hot Tub? Is this possible? Well, hopefully by the time you get to the end of this case study you will see and learn that it totally is.

Chris from Utah got in touch with me as he knew exactly what he wanted to build. He has even modelled it up in 3D – he just didn’t know how to plumb it in – this is where I came in.

Not all of the consultancy work that I do is a full design, sometimes I’m drafted in to work on the plumbing, or even the structural build too.

To learn more about my hot tub consultancy, you can read more here.

So back to Chris in Utah and his journey with his DIY Infinity Hot Tub.

Trey’s DIY Hot Tub Build – Germany

Trey's DIY Hot Tub Build

It always surprises me just how much communication back and forth I have with customers when I come to put these case studies together. Even more so when I am starting to write it up well over a year since the initial contact. I must have well over 150 emails and so many photos back and forth. Some are of parts and how to fit them so I am not going to include those in this case study. But I will include as many of the pics that Trey very kindly has sent me.

Trey, US services Veteran now living in Germany got in touch with me through the website, on the regular DIY Form that you can find at the bottom of this page.

Fibreglass Hot Tub Refurbishment – Case Study

Not every DIY Hot Tub project that I work on is a new design and build. I do a lot of “rescue projects” where tubs and pool are either partly done or partly designed and the customer need help to finish things off. The other line of work that I do is refurbishments and help people get non-working tubs back in action.

This project is more of a hybrid between a refurbishment and a new build than anything. Mark came to me wanting to remove his fibreglass hot tub that had seen better days and replace it with a poured concrete tub but keep most of the plumbing he already had.

I love it when a plan comes together

“I love it when a plan comes together”. Anyone spot the 1980s popular TV culture reference to the A-Team? Probably my favourite TV program as a child. Perhaps, dare I say it how I got into the whole “DIY thing”. I always marvelled at the inventions the A Team cobbled together. I loved making things as a kid. I still love making and creating “things” today. I remember vividly playing “A-Team” with my younger brother – I was always Hannibal Smith – the “man with a plan”.
