3 Budget Friendly DIY Hot Tub Ideas

Budget Friendly Hot Tub

As a DIY hot tub business, one of the most frequent questions I get is whats the best budget-friendly DIY hot tub to build. I decided to create a video and write this article to answer this very question. Let’s take a closer look at my top three budget-friendly DIY hot tub ideas!

Note: These aren’t just any basic tubs—they include everything a “proper” hot tub should have, like filtration, jets, and heating.

You can also find me on my socials;

1. Pallet Hot Tub

The name might be misleading, as this hot tub isn’t actually made of pallets! It’s built from a water tank with pallets encased around it to give it structure and shape.

I completed a build like this for a customer in Israel, where we transformed a water tank into a fully functioning hot tub. The result turned out really impressive, as you can see below!

2. Horse Trough Hot Tub

Are horse trough hot tubs a real thing? Yes, they are—and they work surprisingly well! These tubs are small, typically holding only one or two people, making them a cosy budget option.

They’re really easy to make as well! Just cut holes for the jets and suction in the sides, add the necessary piping, a pump, filter, and electric heater, and you’re ready to go. Plus, they make a unique addition to any backyard with their rustic feeling.

3. Stock Tank Hot Tub

These are, without a doubt, my favourite budget hot tubs! Made from stock tanks, they’re similar to horse trough tubs but offer more space. They’re affordable and can be customised to suit your needs, while working just like high-end hot tubs.

The Budget for Budget Friendly Hot Tubs

Each of these hot tubs can be built comfortably for under $3,000. While that might sound like a lot for a DIY project, these tubs offer the same experience as a $10,000 to $15,000 hot tub but at a fraction of the price.

If you’re interested in building your own DIY hot tub, I have plans, designs, and parts available in my online store – shop.buildahottub.com. Just follow the instructions, and you’ll have your own custom hot tub up and running in no time!
