I’ve been following Paul’s DIY hot tub build in the UK for some time, here on the blog and on my YouTube channel. If you missed the earlier stages (the groundwork, the poured walls and that first test dip), catch up with Paul’s DIY hot tub journey first.
In this video, Paul walks us round his nearly finished hot tub and explains some of the features and the thinking behind the design. Check it out below.
What Paul shows us in the video
Paul has been building his hot tub with my help on the plumbing design, the parts and plenty of other bits along the way. He’s almost finished and is planning to fill it up and use it with his friends.
The tub is built with curved, tiled concrete seating and has 5–6 jets, a drain and 4 inlets. Paul has also added a wood burner and outdoor speakers. And it’s in a beautiful setting, right in the middle of nowhere.
Paul says that having someone to act as a sounding board has been invaluable to him and the project. That’s exactly why I do this, so thank you, Paul.
More details from the walkaround
- The hot tub is 5–6 feet long and 3–4 feet wide.
- It’s 2–3 feet deep.
- The wood burner can heat the water to 104°F (40°C).
- The outdoor speakers connect to a Bluetooth device.
- Paul is planning to add a solar thermal panel to help heat the water.
- He’s also planning to add a cover to help keep the water warm.

Planning your own build?
Paul started from one of my standard designs and made it his own. If a standard size fits your garden or backyard, my DIY hot tub plans include the CAD drawings, plumbing layout, parts list and video course.
What do you think of Paul’s tub? Let me know in the comments below. I read them all.

Hi, Andi here. I own Buildahottub.com and also write all of the articles and info pages on the site. Some years back now, I built my own hot tub but struggled to find the information I needed. So, once my tub was complete, I started this website to help others in their own pursuit of hot tub and plunge pools DIY building information.
Fast forward to 2025, I've helped over 1400+ DIY customers just like you all over the world build hot tubs and pools. Have a good look around the site, there are lots of resources here. Please do get in touch if I can help you. - Cheers, Andi
