How to find a replacement headrest, cushion or pillow for your hot tub?

replacement headrest

If you own a plastic shell hot tub, chances are you’ll eventually need to find replacement headrests for your hot tub. However, it’s not always a straightforward task, as factors like the age of the tub and the brand can greatly affect your options.

But don’t worry! By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly how to find a replacement headrest or cushion for your hot tub.

Contact the Manufacturer

Your first step should be to contact the hot tub’s manufacturer. As the original maker, they usually offer a range of accessories and can provide the best guidance for your specific model.

Replacement Headrests Generic Options

Manufacturers may go out of business over time, or they may no longer offer accessories for older models. If this is the case, you’ll need to consider a generic replacement headrest or cushion instead. Thankfully, there are plenty of generic options available. The key is to find one that fits your hot tub.

Here’s how to go about it:

Physical Similarity

Look for a cushion that closely resembles your existing one in shape and size. This helps ensure a proper fit.

Actual Dimensions

Accurate measurements are crucial. Use a tape measure to note the length, height, and width of your current pillow or headrest. The most important measurement is the distance between the attachment holes on the back of the cushion. Precision here is vital, as even a small miscalculation could mean the new headrest won’t fit.

Fixings

When removing your old headrest, check if you can reuse the existing fixings, as most generic replacements don’t come with new ones. The fixings (the plastic parts and bolts that secure the cushion) can often be separated and reused, saving you the hassle of sourcing new ones.

If the original fixings are unusable, ensure the replacement comes with compatible fixings for your tub.

Colour

Don’t stress too much about matching the colour exactly. Generic headrests in specific colours can be hard to find, so your priority should be getting the correct measurements and fit.

What if There’s No Replacement?

I don’t want to end on a low note, but sometimes a replacement headrest simply isn’t available for your hot tub model. In such cases, your only option might be to rely on some serious DIY skills to create a custom solution.
