Since most Balboa circuit boards look similar, there are a few specific things you’ll need to check to accurately identify your Balboa circuit board.

This image will be your guide, highlighting the physical features you should look for on your Balboa PCB.

Model & Part Number

A great place to start is by locating the model and part numbers. As shown in the bottom left of the circuit board, the model and part numbers are typically printed. For instance, in the image above, the model number is GS500 and the part number is 22015_B. While the location of these numbers may vary, they will always be printed in a similar format.

Visual Similarity

With new models and upgrades, there may be slight changes in the appearance of the PCB. However, your goal should be to find a replacement that looks as close as possible to your original board to ensure compatibility.

Chip Details

The most crucial element to check is the chip model and revision. For example, the GS500 model is used across a range of products, so the model number alone isn’t sufficient. You’ll need to cross-reference the model number with the chip number to ensure compatibility.

In the image below, you’ll see a Balboa BP601 circuit board. The chip number and part number are clearly printed on it. The chip number indicates the specific software loaded onto the board.

Finding the Perfect Fit

After reading this article, you now know that choosing the first model you find isn’t the best approach. Be sure to cross-reference the model number, part number, chip number, and the physical appearance of the circuit board to ensure you’re selecting the correct replacement.
