Are you wondering if you really need to replace your topside control? If you’re here, you’re likely dealing with a malfunction and questioning whether it’s time for a replacement. The good news is, not all topside control issues require a full replacement.
Let’s go over some common problems and whether they can be fixed, or if a replacement is necessary.

Common Issues You Might Be Able to Fix
Here are a few typical problems with topside controls that can often be resolved without the need for a replacement:
1. Moisture/Condensation
If you notice condensation or water droplets inside your display, like in the image below, your topside control may stop working temporarily. This doesn’t mean you need to replace the entire unit.
This might look like the picture below.
Instead, you can simply replace the overlay (the graphic panel on top of the screen). The overlay can be peeled off, allowing the screen to dry out. This quick fix costs around $20, which is much more affordable than replacing the entire unit, which could run you $100 or more.
2. Buttons Sticking
Another common issue is buttons getting stuck to the control panel. To fix this, you can remove the overlay card and use a pin to gently pry the buttons free. Applying a small amount of grease or oil can help prevent them from sticking in the future.
If the buttons themselves are worn out, you might need to replace the overlay card, but it’s still a much cheaper fix than replacing the entire topside control.
3. Misbehaving Buttons
If you’re pressing one button but it’s controlling something else entirely, the issue may be with your spa pack’s programming, not the topside control itself. Try resetting or reprogramming your spa pack before considering a replacement.
When Replacement is Necessary
Some issues with topside controls do require a full replacement. Here are the situations where replacement is the only solution:
1. No Display
If the display is blank but the buttons still work, or if the display is only partially functional, the problem lies with the LCD panel, which means the entire topside control needs to be replaced.
2. Faulty Display and Buttons
In cases where both the display and buttons are non-functional, replacing the topside control is unavoidable.
How to Replace Your Topside Control
When replacing your topside control, it’s important to use the same model as the original. If you can’t find an exact match, make sure the new control is compatible with your spa pack. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out to me for assistance.
Pro Tip: Consider Bundling
If you have an older hot tub, it might be more cost-effective in the long run to replace both the topside control and the spa pack at the same time. You can often find bundles that are cheaper than buying an older model control panel on its own.
In summary, not every topside control issue requires a replacement. Try these fixes first, and if you still need help or are ready for a replacement, don’t hesitate to reach out!
