In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to program the Balboa BP8 Spa Pack using the TP700 topside control with a graphical user interface. Heads up, this process is slightly different from the traditional TP600, so let’s dive in!

Overview of the Balboa BP8 Spa Pack
Looking to buy one – you can do so here!
Here’s the Balboa BP8 Spa Pack:
This advanced unit allows you to configure various combinations of pumps and blowers. On the bottom right corner of the BP8’s cover, you’ll find a table listing 18 different configurations.
When you start a new Spa pack, it is set to mode 1 by default. For the sake of this demo, I’ll be setting the pack to Mode 9, which is designed for:
- A two-speed pump (Pump 1)
- A single-speed pump (Pump 2)
- A single-speed blower
Hence, the first step is identifying what you’ll be connecting to your spa pack.
Getting Started with Configuration
To program the BP8, I’ve connected it to the TP700 topside control, which features a sleek graphical user interface. This interface is the same as on the SpaTouch range.
Step 1: Enable Test Mode
- Locate the bank of 10 dip switches in the top right corner of the BP8.
- Carefully flip dip switch 1 to the ON position (upwards).
- Safety Note: The unit is live, so only touch the switch to avoid accidental contact with other components.
This will enable Test Mode or setup mode that unlocks additional settings on the graphical interface.
Step 2: Changing the Setup Mode
Once in Test Mode, navigate through the graphical user interface to access the setup options:
- Select the Test menu. (This menu only appears when dip switch 1 is in the ON position.)
- You’ll see the current setup mode displayed. For this demo, it’s set to Mode 1 by default.
- Scroll down and select Mode 9 from the list.
(Mode 9 corresponds to our desired pump and blower configuration as confirmed on the back of the cover.) - Click Set to confirm the change.
Next, you’ll hear the relays click, and the unit will reset automatically. The screen will display “Initializing” as the new settings take effect.
Step 3: Finalizing the Configuration
When the unit reboots, you may see an error code or a prompt to set the time. This is normal, especially if it’s a demo unit which I’m using.
- Verify the setup mode by revisiting the Test menu. It should now display Mode 9.
- Ensure the configuration aligns with your desired settings.
After you’re satisfied with the setup:
- Carefully return to the dip switches.
- Flip dip switch 1 back to the OFF position (downwards).
- Confirm that the Test Mode option disappears from the interface.
Wrapping Up
That’s it! You’ve successfully configured your Balboa BP8 Spa Pack using the TP700 topside control. The relays will click as the unit transitions to the new setup mode, and you’re ready to go!

Hi, Andi here. I own Buildahottub.com and also write all of the articles and info pages on the site. Some years back now, I built my own hot tub but struggled to find the information I needed. So, once my tub was complete, I started this website to help others in their own pursuit of hot tub and plunge pools DIY building information.
Fast forward to 2025, I've helped over 1400+ DIY customers just like you all over the world build hot tubs and pools. Have a good look around the site, there are lots of resources here. Please do get in touch if I can help you. - Cheers, Andi
